The Half-Red Honeypot Ant (Myrmecocystus semirufus) is a desert species native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It is commonly found in California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and parts of Texas. The species gets its name from its partially reddish coloration, and are known to be polygynous (when a colony can have multiple queens). They are primarily nocturnal foragers that thrive in hot, arid environments where they collect sugars and small insects.
